Remaining Laser-focused on the Important Things in the New Year

Posted Under: Legacy of Impact, Workplace Culture  //  Leave a Comment

In a world filled with noise and distractions, it’s all too easy to lose focus on what truly matters. But if we want to create our best lives and achieve success, we must learn to remain laser-focused on the things that truly matter.

We’re going to keep things really simple in this post. (Reminder: Always keep it simple when it comes to the important things.)

To remain laser-focused on the important things you need to do two things:

  • Stay focused on your vision.
  • Identify your non-negotiables.

1. Stay focused on your vision.

What do you want to achieve in the coming year?

What does success look like for you, your team, your life?

If you aren’t sure, take some time to reflect on what you really want to achieve and make sure to connect your core values with your work to create meaning in your life.

Our blog post about leading with heart at work can help you create your vision. And our Coaches can guide you as you create your vision, build your resilience, and develop a Growth Plan to make your vision a reality in our 1:1 Coaching.

By aligning your goals with your core values and staying positive and resilient, you can remain focused on your vision and avoid getting sidetracked by uncertainty or worry.

Staying focused on your vision is important, but it’s not enough to deliver long-term success.

2. Identify your non-negotiables

You must identify your non-negotiables, the essential activities that are necessary for your long-term success. These are the things that you must continue to invest in, no matter what challenges or distractions come your way.

By committing to your non-negotiables, you can ensure that you’re putting your energy and effort into the things that truly matter for your success.

Take a few minutes right now to create YOUR LIST of non-negotiables that you will commit to no matter what crisis or challenge appears in your future.

What are the non-negotiables that are essential to your long-term success?

Is it a focus on people development, recruiting, developing bench strength, building new systems, developing new products and services, capital improvements, or the health and well-being of your team?

Choose YOUR non-negotiables: the things you must invest in to be successful in 2023 and beyond.

In a world filled with noise and distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important. Take the time to identify and commit to your non-negotiables now. It’s beneficial to create this list when you have the time to pause and reflect instead of waiting until you are in the middle of change and adversity.

As McKinsey & Company said in their recent article about what matters most, “the hardest task of all for CEOs is to decide what needs to be done now and what can wait.”

Staying focused on your vision and identifying and committing to invest in your non-negotiables are key to achieving success and creating your best life.

Keep things simple and focus on what’s truly important so you can remain laser-focused and achieve your goals.
